Squaring the circle (Квадратура круга) & The Vitruvian Man
Does my left brain (analytytical, logical, linear, concrete, numerical, verbal) know that the right brain (intuitive, emotional, spatial, visual, physical) is doing?
I guess … NO!
Let’s take a look on the Vitruvian Man and Squaring the circle problem.
The Vitruvian Man (Proportions of Man) created by Leonardo da Vinci around the year 1487 is based on the correlations of ideal human proportions with geometry described by the ancient Roman architect Vitruvius in Book III of his treatise De Architectura.
Vitruvius described the human figure as being the principal source of proportion among the Classical orders of architecture.
Squaring the circle (Квадратура круга) is a problem proposed by ancient geometers.
It is the challenge of constructing a square with the same area as a given circle by using only a finite number of steps with compass and straightedge(построение с помощью циркуля и линейки).
More abstractly and more precisely, it may be taken to ask whether specified axioms of Euclidean geometry concerning the existence of lines and circles entail the existence of such a square.
In 1882, the task was proven to be impossible…..
In 2010, my right brain told me: “Hey, Ilya! Look! Da Vinci solved Squaring the circle problem in 1487!”
My left brain forced me to do Hemispheric Dominance Inventory Test
I’m 100% LEFT-BRAINED!
“Sad, but true” … should I start listening my right brain from now on?
